2. Project description
Skill Lab: Science Detective is a game designed to provide you with a fun gaming experience while gathering data on how you solve problems and how you use some of your neuropsychological and cognitive skills when playing video games. This information allows us to create models of how people solve problems, how they use neuropsychological and cognitive skills while gaming, and understand the variation of these skills across different people.
To validate our models we make use of validated psychological tasks. As a player of Skill Lab: Science Detective, you might be taking, at a certain point, one of these tasks. We will correlate the data from the tasks with our game models.
When using Skill Lab: Science Detective we collect data related to your performance within the games and tasks (e.g., the time it takes you to solve a problem, how efficient you are at solving it, how much do you repeat certain actions, etc.). Different games and tasks produce different data, in either an implicit or an explicit way. We only record data generated from your actions within the application. Data you provide and produce while playing, are linked to the data you provide in the other games and services that are part of the ScienceAtHome platform through your ScienceAtHome user account, which contains information about your email, name, gender, date of birth, nationality, city, and country of residence, educational level, field of employment/study, and user-generated data. In case we need to share your personal data with a third party or process your data for other research purposes, we will contact you regarding a new consent form.
In addition, we might present you with additional questions regarding how you solve problems. Some of the answers to these questions can be personal data in the form of data concerning mental health and political affiliation. Answering these questions are optional.
